ACCOMPLISHMENTS
KEPT MILLAGE RATES LOW
The Board was successful in its endeavor to not raise property taxes in Greene County. By maintaining financial discipline and using funds efficiently, the county has been able to keep millage rates low while still providing and enhancing the level of services our community has grown to expect.
SERVICE DELIVERY
During Gary's first term as a member of the Board of Commissioners, the Board successfully resolved service delivery negotiations with the cities.
ESTABLISH A COUNTYWIDE PAID FIREFIGHTER SERVICE
Our incredibly committed and dedicated volunteer firefighters are a blessing to
the community. However, the growing demands of the community were outpacing the volunteer resources. With innovation and collaboration, the county was able to deploy paid staffing for firefighters in a welcoming manner and maintain the support and commitment to our volunteers. We did so without a tax increase.
My pledge to Greene County remains the same: to serve our community responsibly while maintaining a collaborative behavior that fosters trust. I intend to continue to strive to be aware
of the needs of all citizens and to work hard to create an environment that enables our
community to thrive.
FUTURE PRIORITIES
Looking ahead, Chairman Usry is optimistic about what he and the Board of Commissioners will be able to achieve for Greene County residents over his next term. Projects at the top of Usry’s priorities are:
ï‚· - The completion of the jail renovation project
ï‚· - Expansion of the recreation complex
- Continue to support Public Safety needs of our growing community
ï‚· - Renewing the SPLOST and TSPLOST in 2025 and 2026
MEET GARY
Gary has been married to Machelle for 38 years and they have two children and four grandchildren. Gary and his family are members of Lakepoint Community Church. He is a former Greensboro City Council member and is the owner of Greensboro Tire Pros, a family business that his father started. He has served on the Greene County Board of Commissioners since 2017.
